We all know diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but Jennifer Connelly would rather forego the bling bling after her role in the Leonardo DiCaprio caper, Blood Diamond.

Seems like the superstar was aghast upon learning the real story behind the conflict over the Sierra Leon diamond mines, which is one of the major sources of financial support for the civil wars, and employ children as soldiers in the wars. “I didn’t know what conflict diamonds were. It’s impossible for me to look at diamonds the same way as before,” the 36-year-old actress says.

Thankfully, her wedding band, thanks to hubby Paul Bettany, doesn’t pose the same problem: they’re both wearing matching simple gold rings.
